What changes the monthly price
- Access plan: weekday-only plans cost less than 24/7 access. Lumen’s posted rates also differ for building residents and non-residents.
- New-customer specials: Lumen has offered $250 a month for a weekday plan (Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and $350 for 24/7 access, each for the first six months. Specials like these are limited-time and change often.
- Vehicle size: SUVs and vans can pay more. Lumen has a 9-foot height limit, and the Court Square W lot takes oversized vehicles.
- Rules: some monthly plans ban long-term vehicle storage, so a car that sits unused for weeks may not qualify.

The Court Square city garage and its monthly permits
The Court Square Municipal Parking Garage is the cheapest garage in LIC, but its $400 monthly permits are limited and never guaranteed. NYC DOT runs it at 45-40 Court Square, between Court Square East and Court Square West, behind the courthouse.
| Court Square garage | Details |
|---|---|
| Hours and size | Open 24/7, 713 spaces |
| Hourly to daily | $9 first hour, $14 up to 2 hours, $3 each added hour, $20 up to 10 hours, $25 up to 24 hours |
| Early Bird | $14: enter 6 to 9 a.m., leave by 7 p.m. |
| Night Special | $12: enter 8 p.m. to midnight, leave by 6 a.m. |
| EV charging | 9 Level 2 chargers at $0.27 per kWh. 4 DC fast chargers, with the first 13 kWh free, then $0.39 per kWh |
| Monthly permit | $400 a month, 204 permit spaces |
| Lost ticket | Charged from 12:01 a.m. on the day you entered |
How to get a monthly permit
- Reserve online through NYC DOT’s Parking Reservation System at dotprs.nyc. Reservations open at 10 a.m., five days before the first of the month.
- Pass the license check. DOT checks your New York State driver’s license when you reserve.
- Pay at the garage manager’s office by the first day of the permit month. A reservation alone does not guarantee a permit.
- Walk-in permits are available on the first of the month, but in limited numbers.
Demand for these permits is not new. In 2015, local residents described waiting hours in line at this garage to renew them, before DOT moved to a first come, first served system.
Permit full?
Private garages nearby sell monthly spots too, and new-customer specials can come close to the city’s price. Tell us what you need and a parking partner will send you options.
LIC garages, one by one
Many LIC garages are valet garages, and their access hours matter as much as their prices.
Lumen LIC (Propark)
23-15 44th Road, with the entrance on 24th Street. Covered valet parking with EV charging and a 9-foot height limit. Propark lists hours of 6 a.m. to midnight daily. Drive-up rates run $15 for 2 hours, $21 for 10 hours, and $29 for 24 hours. Monthly plans don’t allow long-term vehicle storage.
MPG Jackson Avenue
45 Davis Street, steps from the Court Square station. Covered valet parking with EV charging, open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Overnight parking works only if you drop off and pick up within those hours.
MPG Court Square
57 Court Square East, also listed as 27-28 Thomson Avenue. A valet garage beside the Court Square stations, with online bookings from about $14.
iPark, Hunter Street
43-25 Hunter Street, near MoMA PS1. Covered valet parking. Overnight drop-off and pick-up run 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
City Parking, Hunters Point South
52-34 2nd Street, near the waterfront. Covered valet parking, open 24/7. The entrance is on 2nd Street, a one-way street, between Borden Avenue and 54th Avenue.
Commuting to Manhattan: park in LIC and ride in
Driving into Midtown on weekdays costs a $9 congestion toll each day before you pay to park. Parking in LIC and taking the subway skips the toll entirely.
| Monthly cost, about 21 workdays | Drive into Midtown | Park in LIC, take the subway |
|---|---|---|
| Congestion toll (E-ZPass, peak hours) | About $189 ($9 a day) | $0 |
| Subway fare | $0 | About $126 ($3 each way) |
| Parking | Your Manhattan garage’s monthly rate | From $250 (weekday special) to $400 (city permit) |
The toll applies when you enter Manhattan south of 60th Street. Peak hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, with a $2.25 overnight rate. The MTA plans to raise the peak toll to $12 in 2028.
LIC is well placed for this. The 7, E, M, N, W, and R trains reach Manhattan within a stop or two, and the G runs to Brooklyn. Weekday garage plans, like Lumen’s Monday-to-Friday plan, are built for exactly this commute.

Overnight parking, EV charging, and tall vehicles
Check a garage’s access hours before you leave a car overnight. Several LIC garages close at night, and a closed garage can keep your car until morning.
Overnight parking
| Garage | Overnight rule |
|---|---|
| Court Square city garage | Open 24/7. Night Special $12: enter 8 p.m. to midnight, leave by 6 a.m. |
| City Parking, Hunters Point South | Open 24/7 |
| City Parking Maximus | Open 24 hours |
| iPark, Hunter Street | Drop-off and pick-up 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. (2 a.m. Friday and Saturday) |
| Lumen LIC | 6 a.m. to midnight, per Propark |
| MPG Jackson Avenue | Only if you drop off and pick up between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. |
| Sunnyside Municipal Field | Closes at 10 p.m. No overnight parking |
EV charging
- Court Square city garage: DC fast chargers with the first 13 kWh free, then $0.39 per kWh, plus Level 2 chargers at $0.27 per kWh.
- Sunnyside Municipal Field: DC fast chargers at $0.52 per kWh.
- Lumen LIC and MPG Jackson Avenue: both list EV charging. Ask about charger access when you book.
Tall and oversized vehicles
Lumen LIC takes vehicles up to 9 feet. For pickups, vans, and trucks, the lot at 45-46 Court Square West is built for oversized vehicles, with monthly parking from about $993. Some garages charge extra for SUVs and oversized vehicles, so mention your vehicle when you ask for a quote.
Street parking and meters in LIC
Street parking in LIC works best for short visits: commercial blocks have meters with time limits, and many residential blocks have street cleaning rules.
- Meter rates: a metered block on Vernon Boulevard charges $2 for the first hour and $5 for two hours, Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Queens meters range from $1.50 to $2.50 for the first hour by zone, and each meter shows its rate.
- Sundays and holidays: meters are not in effect on Sundays or major legal holidays. Other posted rules still apply.
- Paying: use the ParkNYC app or the meter. Newer pay-by-plate meters, rolled out in Queens from fall 2025, take your plate number, so you don’t display a receipt.
- Outdoor dining: some metered spaces on restaurant blocks are taken by dining setups.
- Street cleaning: many LIC blocks have alternate side parking. Check today’s status and the 2026 calendar before you leave a car.
- Hydrants: keep 15 feet clear on each side. See our fire hydrant ticket guide.
For more on meter zones and ticket fines, see the NYC parking guide.
